When responding to yesterday’s prompt to recall a vivid memory, I totally failed. I honestly couldn’t think of one that I hadn’t already talked about in a post.
While I was driving today I saw a random carport in the middle of a parking lot. And then it hit me!
My granddaddy died when I was 8 years old (1995), so my memories of him are limited. But there are a few things I will never forget about him. 1) He called me hammerhead. 2) He always fell asleep in his recliner and I would climb on his lap, usually waking him up in the process. But those things happened on a regular basis.
One day, we were driving his old truck with a couch in the bed and it started to hail! (Let’s get the hail outta here! -inside joke) So we pulled off the side of the road in the middle of nowhere and there just so happened to be an empty carport for us to pull under. Not only did this carport save the couch (and the truck), it also gave us a rare opportunity to spend time without anyone else around. We listened to some music and talked about who knows what.
That might not be one of my most vivid memories, but it is definitely one of the best. Miss you, Granddaddy!
